Game summary
The Red Bulls had the first offensive chances of the game. Accordingly, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute. Pokka scored right in the corner of the goal. Munich continued to put pressure on Schwenningen after that, and visiting goalie Michael Bitzer had his hands full. But the Wild Wings scored the next goals: First, Daniel O'Regan equalized to make it 1-1 on a power play (12th), then Alexander Karachun made it 2-1 (15th). And shortly before the end of the period, O'Regan celebrated his second goal to make it 3-1 at the break (20th).
In the second period, Munich immediately returned to the energetic and dominant form they had shown at the start of the game. However, it took until the 30th minute for them to score their first goal. Rieder narrowed the gap for the Red Bulls on a power play. Shortly afterwards, the four-time German champions survived five minutes of shorthanded play unscathed and finally went into the second break trailing 2-3.
Murphy quickly equalized in the final period with his first DEL goal from the blue line (42nd minute). Munich now pressed forward determinedly and created plenty of chances. Brooks took advantage of one of them to make it 4-3 for the Red Bulls (49th), and 3:33 minutes later, Hirose increased the lead to 5-3 (53rd). In the 57th minute, Zach Senyshyn gave Schwenningen hope once again with the 4-5. But EHC Red Bull Munich didn't let anything slip and secured their third consecutive home win.
