Luis Schinko in person: Between Shiba Inu, culinary delights & great ambition“Who are you?” - the new portrait series of the Red Bulls// PORTRAIT In the first edition of our new series “Who are you?”, we introduce you to our new signing Luis Schinko - a team player with ambition and a calm.Luis Schinko was born with ice hockey DNA. His father Thomas was a professional himself, playing for Berlin and Cologne in the German Ice Hockey League, among others. “He played for a long time and kind of showed me the ropes,” says Schinko. As is so often the case with ice hockey kids, it started early. “I was on the ice for the first time at the age of four.”
In the meantime, he also tried his hand at soccer - “my friends from kindergarten played, so of course I wanted to join in” - but it soon became clear that the path led to the ice, as a striker. “Scoring goals is simply more fun for me than standing in goal,” he emphasizes with a laugh. That still holds true today.
Episode 1 - „Wer bist denn du?“ mit Luis Schinko
// PORTRÄT
Great moment in Landshut
Schinko is now 25 years old. His greatest ice hockey moment? "Definitely the promotion with EV Landshut to DEL2 in 2019. I played with a lot of friends back then. That title was something very special - I'll never forget it." Further highlights followed: his first game in the DEL and his first international match for Germany. But the Oberliga championship with Landshut remains unforgotten. To this day, no other title has followed. Neither with the Löwen Frankfurt nor with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
New start in Munich
Schinko starts his next attempt with the Red Bulls. He is approaching the Munich chapter with great anticipation: "There are a lot of top players in the team here and the competition is naturally fierce. It will be interesting and I'm really looking forward to starting from scratch."
The Landshut native is also enjoying his new home away from the ice: “I'm out and about a lot on my bike here and want to get to know every corner of Munich.” He has already found what he is looking for in terms of food: “The best pizza so far was a Neapolitan in Schwabing - really good.”

A family man in his private life
In his private life, Luis is a real family man. He moved to the Bavarian capital with his girlfriend and their dog, a Shiba Inu. "My girlfriend and my dog mean a lot to me. I find the perfect balance to sport with them," he says. “My girlfriend's family say that our dog reflects me quite well,” he says and laughs, because the dog breed is considered strong-willed, a little stubborn, but lovable.
On days off, Schinko likes to cycle through the city, sometimes to Schwabing, sometimes to the park. “A good meal, a bit of a stroll, a series in the evening - that's a perfect day for me.” Golf is also very popular with him. “When I get home after training, a bit of fresh air does me good.”
Why the 63?
Luis also has a special connection to his shirt number. He used to wear 12 most of the time - just like his father once did. "Unfortunately, it was taken in Wolfsburg. So I thought about it with my girlfriend - and decided on 63." He also wore it at the age of just 17 in his first Oberliga match, in which he scored his first goal. For the Red Bulls, he will wear the 63 again.
His father used to be a great role model, but today he looks more closely at NHL stars like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. “You can learn from others, but you should always go your own way.” He has done well with this motto so far in his career. And that's how it should continue with the Red Bulls. “I want to confirm my performance and win titles with the team.”
