EHC Red Bull München: Record-holder Maximilian Kastner Reaches 600 Games
Since January 12, 2025, Maxi Kastner has been the sole record-holder for most appearances with EHC Red Bull München. On that date, he surpassed our former defenseman Daryl Boyle. Last Friday in Straubing, the Garmisch native also reached the 600-game mark, achieving another personal milestone.

It’s clear just how much this milestone means to him in his twelfth season with the Red Bulls: “It means a great deal to me. If someone had told me that back then, I wouldn’t have believed it. That’s why it makes me all the more proud to have reached this milestone—and especially for this organization,” he emphasized. “It’s just wonderful to play for this club. There’s a lot of heart and soul behind it.” And you can really tell he means it. Game after game, substitution after substitution.
“He’s earned every single game”
Don Jackson, who paved the way for Kastner to join the DEL back in 2014, also found the right words for his former protégé on the occasion of his record-breaking game nearly two years ago. “Maxi Kastner is a hard worker. He’s earned every single game he’s played for Red Bull Munich,” said the legendary coach. Nothing has changed in that regard to this day.
It’s praise that aptly sums up Kastner’s career. Because behind his 601 appearances (104 goals, 156 assists) lie not only talent and skill, but above all hard work, reliability, and tireless dedication.

Grew Up with the Red Bulls
When Kasti made his DEL debut for the Red Bulls against the Hamburg Freezers in December 2014, he was a promising young prospect. What began back then has developed into an extraordinary success story. Since the 2015–16 season, Kastner has been a fixture on our professional roster—and it’s hard to imagine the team without him now.
Over the years, the former youngster has become a seasoned veteran and a leader who now passes on his experience to the younger generation. With each season, Kastner took on more responsibility and became a central pillar of the team. His versatility, his dedication, and his willingness to always put the team first continue to set him apart to this day.
The fact is: Kasti knows our organization, our values, and our standards like few others do. He has long since become more than just a part of the Red Bulls—he also represents a piece of our history.

New Role, Same Passion
On the field, Kastner has recently opened a new chapter in his career. The trained forward was permanently converted to a defender at the start of this season, once again demonstrating his flexibility and team spirit. It was a transition that took some getting used to at first, but has since become more and more routine.
“I’ve really been enjoying it so far. Of course, it felt strange at first to see the position as a permanent role. But over the last two months, I’ve settled in well,” he said.
He’s also particularly pleased that national team coach André Rankel nominated him for the Deutschland Cup in his new role as a defenseman. Kastner admits: “It makes me proud that I was nominated even in my new position and that I can showcase and contribute my experience on the international stage as well.” In any case, our current defenseman has been a mainstay on the DEB team for years. He has already participated in six World Championships and was runner-up at the 2023 World Championships.

A Success Story with Golden Chapters
A glance at his trophy collection also shows that hard work and consistency pay off. Kastner has been on the ice for all four of our German championships to date. He scored his first DEL goal in September 2015 with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg—the very place where, a few months later, he also won his first title with the Red Bulls. It was a special moment that marked the beginning of an impressive run. Kastner also made his mark on an individual level: In 2023, he capped off the successful Munich Finals series by being named Finals MVP.
One thing is certain: The number 600 is more than just a statistical milestone. It stands for more than a decade full of emotions, for championships and setbacks, for intense playoff battles and unforgettable moments. Above all, however, it represents an extraordinary bond between a player and his club.
