EHC Red Bull München: Tobias Rieder Shines in the DEL Playoffs
Whether it was a follow-up shot from the slot, a tip-in, or a goal off a counterattack: Rieder scored however he wanted in the six derby matchups against Ingolstadt. His name appeared on the scoreboard in five games, and in Game 2, he even scored a brace in the 6-1 victory. With six goals, the Landshut native is currently the leading scorer in the playoffs.
A goal for the ages
The highlight: his outstanding solo run in the final period of Game 6. First, Rieder outmaneuvered Ingolstadt defender Leon Hüttl with a deft move; then our number eight was unstoppable, leaving Panthers goalie Brett Brochu with no chance to stop his crisp shot under the crossbar—5-3 in Munich’s favor, the door to the semifinals was open. A few minutes later, the Red Bulls pushed through.

“In addition to a strong team effort on defense, we also scored a few particularly beautiful goals. Take Tobias Rieder’s, for example,” Oliver David said afterward. “That was a one-on-one move, a counterattack, and then the finish—a truly beautiful goal,” our head coach described the play.
“Let’s keep it up”
After scoring 16 goals in the regular season, Rieder has stepped up his game just in time for crunch time. With his experience, speed, and goal-scoring instinct—especially around the opponent’s net—the player with 492 NHL appearances is a key piece of the Munich offense. And the left winger is efficient: 22 shots, six goals, and a success rate of 27.27 percent—impressive numbers!
“I try to play my game as best as I can. In this series, the pucks fell right in front of my stick; I had that little bit of luck—then things happen really fast,” said Rieder, when asked about his standout performance in the quarterfinals, adding: “It feels good; of course, it can continue this way.”

Team chemistry is key
The team’s impressive chemistry between Taro Hirose and Adam Brooks is also expected to continue. The Red Bulls’ forward trio is firing on all cylinders and was unstoppable against Ingolstadt, racking up a total of 24 points. It’s no coincidence that Hirose, with ten points (three goals, seven assists), is currently the top scorer in the playoffs alongside Berlin’s Ty Ronning; Brooks also contributed five assists, and Rieder added three more goals.
As the only Munich forward line, our three guys have been on the ice together in every game of the quarterfinal series—with success. “It’s always nice when you play with two forwards for a longer stretch. You get to know each other better on the ice,” said Rieder about their unspoken chemistry.
The trio has complemented each other perfectly so far, with each of the three offensive players bringing different strengths to the table. “Both are technically outstanding. That makes it very easy for me to play with them,” Rieder praised his two linemates. “I make sure to get open, and I know they’ll find me. That’s worked well,” he summarized.

“Every series is different”
Rieder, Brooks, and Hirose have already had success against Adler Mannheim, our semifinal opponent, on multiple occasions during the regular season. But as we all know, the playoffs are the playoffs, and past results don’t matter anymore. Even our strong quarterfinal series against Ingolstadt is no guarantee. “Every series is different, no matter what league,” says the 33-year-old, speaking from his own experience, which includes 14 postseason games in the NHL.
Tickets for the two confirmed semifinal home games are still available here.
