U21 Development Camp: Young Players Show Their Stuff in SalzburgRed Bulls' Young Talents Show Off Their Skills// YOUNG TALENTDuring the four-day U21 Development Camp at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy, the young stars train and play in front of the coaching staff, eager to show their best side—always with their sights set on the next step.
Many ice hockey careers begin at the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy on the Austrian-Bavarian border in Salzburg/Liefering. This is also true for Munich pros such as Max Daubner, Philipp Krening, Lucas Thaler, Elis Hede, and Jeremy McKenna. Just this summer, the 18-year-old Germans Moritz Warnecke (defenseman) and Max Bolle (goaltender) were signed to full contracts by EHC Red Bull München. The U21 Development Camp is another stepping stone on the path to becoming a pro and is highly regarded in the Red Bulls’ hockey world.

38 Players Under Professional Supervision
In this joint project between EC Red Bull Salzburg and Munich, coaches, equipment managers, and physical therapists from both clubs are overseeing the four-day training camp and ensuring that the 38 players (including two guest players) between the ages of 16 and 20 have the best possible conditions to perform at their peak. Powerskating, skills development, and practice games alternate with fitness training as well as theory sessions on mental training and sports nutrition. It’s the perfect opportunity to prove one’s abilities.
Max Kaltenhauser, Assistant Coach, EHC Red Bull München: “It’s a demanding program, and it focuses primarily on the players’ individual skills. The goal is for the guys to showcase their skills in games and be free from too many tactical ‘restrictions,’ so we can see what they’re capable of. We won’t change the world in just a few days, but we can teach the guys a lot, and we coaches have the opportunity to give them the support they need.”

Benedikt Krainer, forward for the Red Bull Hockey Juniors: “The camp is great because we can learn so much. There’s a lot of specialized training, like power skating and skills training—that’s not something we get to do every day. On top of that, there are the practice games. This training camp is the best thing we could have right now to prepare ourselves for bigger challenges.”
The U21 Development Camp, taking place June 23–26, also marks the end of summer training for the youth players. Next week will feature final fitness tests before the young stars head into their well-deserved several-week break from hockey.
