EHC Red Bull München signs goalkeeper Antoine Bibeau
The 31-year-old is transferring from Finnish Liiga club KooKoo Kouvola to the Bavarian capital and will form Munich's new goalkeeper quartet alongside Mathias Niederberger, Simon Wolf, and Matthias Bittner.
The 1.91-meter-tall, 98-kilogram left-handed goalie brings with him experience from almost 250 professional games in the North American professional leagues NHL and AHL. In the AHL, Bibeau played for the Toronto Marlies, San Jose Barracuda, and Belleville Senators, among others, where he played alongside recently signed Munich defenseman Dillon Heatherington in the 2022/23 season. Most recently, the Canadian impressed in Finland's top league with a save percentage of 90.4 percent in 36 games. This made him one of the top ten goalies in the Finnish “Liiga” in this category for the season. Bibeau also recently took to the ice at the Dallas Stars NHL club's training camp (September 18 to October 4).
Christian Winkler, Managing Director Sports Red Bull Ice Hockey, says: "Antoine is an internationally experienced goalkeeper who has proven himself in a wide variety of roles. He brings calmness, consistency, and leadership to a key position. We are very pleased that we were able to convince him to play for our club in the future. With him, our goalie quartet is now complete – just as a DEL season in combination with the Olympic Games requires.“
”I am very happy to now be part of the Red Bull organization in Munich“
Bibeau himself is looking forward to the new challenge: ”I am very happy to now be part of the Red Bull organization in Munich. I have already played in Europe for the past two seasons, where my family and I have enjoyed ourselves very much. When the offer from the Red Bulls came, my family and I quickly agreed that it was a perfect fit for everyone. My goal is simple and straightforward: whenever I get the chance to play, I want to help my team win games."
Bibeau was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the sixth round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He played a total of four NHL games for Toronto and Colorado. The goalie, who hails from the French-speaking part of Canada, is the tenth import player on the Red Bulls' roster to be licensed for the PENNY DEL this season. According to the rules, a maximum of nine professionals with foreign passports are allowed on the game sheet per match in the highest German ice hockey league, with a total of up to eleven such licenses being awarded per club. The Canadian, who is expected to arrive in Munich on Wednesday morning, will play for EHC Red Bull München with the jersey number 30.
