Playoffs DEL EHC Red Bull München: Voices and Stats after Game 1

Why the final phase was important despite a clear leadVoices & Stats on the first semifinal match// DEL - CURRENTBoth sides agreed: The Red Bulls laid the foundation for their 5:2 win against Wolfsburg in the first period. Coach Don Jackson saw "a great performance" from his Munich team. The voices & stats.
Don Jackson: "We started great and were in control in the first period, but then wanted to play it too nice. We defended strongly in the final third. All in all, it was a great performance. It did us good to have a few days off and be able to train. I'm looking forward to the next few games."
Ryan McKiernan: "We started very well and also finished the match well in the last third. We learned in the quarterfinal series against Bremerhaven how we have to play in the playoffs. I'm proud of us. But it's only one win, we need three more."
Maximilian Kastner: "We wanted to make a statement right at the beginning of the series. We succeeded in doing that well. We can be very satisfied, but of course we have to build on this performance. If we perform the same way in Wolfsburg, then we don't need to hide."
Mathias Niederberger: "In the last five minutes we really started to sweat. Despite a clear lead, we threw everything in to avoid conceding another goal. It's important to know that we can hold our own under pressure. In a playoff series, it's often about momentum and confidence - and we didn't give them that anymore."

Pressekonferenz: Red Bull München vs. Grizzlys Wolfsburg (31.03.2023)
// DEL - INTERVIEW
Mike Stewart (coach, Grizzlys Wolfsburg): "Munich was dominant in the first period, we were sleepy. The early goal in the second period gave us a boost, but we lost the momentum again due to unnecessary turnovers. In the last period, we played our ice hockey. But conceding five goals against Munich is too much to win."
Gerrit Fauser (forward, Grizzlys Wolfsburg): "We missed the first period. That can't happen to us against Munich, they're too good for that. Then we came in better, made the connection and had the momentum. But you have to be there from the start, otherwise you have no chance here."
