Goalkeepers Wolf and Bittner receive funding licenses// CURRENTThe two Munich goalkeepers Simon Wolf and Matthias Bittner will gain important playing experience in the coming season under a development license. Wolf with the Eisbären Regensburg (DEL2) and Bittner with the Tölzer Löwen (Oberliga).The aim is to prepare the two 21-year-olds specifically for tasks in the top German league. Their assignments with the clubs will be closely coordinated with the Red Bulls' coaching team and will be determined at short notice. National team goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger remains the regular goalkeeper for EHC Red Bull München.
Focus on further development
Simon Wolf is considered one of the most promising goalie talents in the country. Despite his young age, he already has valuable experience. In Regensburg, he will continue to develop under real competitive conditions and thus grow even more into the Red Bulls' professional team.
He will be coached by a familiar face to many Munich fans: Joey Vollmer, former goalkeeper of the Munich club, is now the goalkeeping coach of the Eisbären. He was in goal for Munich himself between 2002 and 2011, during which time he and the team made it through from the Bayernliga to the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). His jersey with the number 29 - as well as that of Michael Wolf with the number 13 - hangs under the roof of the SAP Gardens as a sign of appreciation and will no longer be given out.
Matthias Bittner came to Munich from the DEL2 club Krefeld Pinguine in the summer. Goalkeeping coach Patrick Dallaire thinks highly of the U20 international: “He's a very good young goalie with great potential and the necessary ambition to develop as an athlete.”
