DEL preview, match day 45: EHC Red Bull München welcomes ERC Ingolstadt

Restart after the break: Red Bulls host Ingolstadt in top match// DEL - PREVIEWThe Olympic break is over, and the PENNY DEL is back. With a sold-out home derby against ERC Ingolstadt on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m., the Red Bulls are kicking off the hot phase of the main round (live on our blog).
The top match for the restart will be dedicated to the Wings for Life Foundation. Among other things, our boys will be wearing specially designed jerseys, and many other activities are planned around our Wings for Life match day.
New attendance record
Incidentally, not only is the Bavarian derby against Ingolstadt sold out, but so are all four remaining home games in the main round. This means we have already set a new attendance record.
We will provide information about playoff ticket sales as soon as the schedule and further details have been finalized.
Restricted access to the Parkharfe
We currently strongly recommend that all visitors to our home games use public transportation to get to and from the stadium. Reason: Due to urban construction work on Landshuter Allee, there will be restrictions on traveling by car to the SAP Garden and the Parkharfe until further notice.
In addition, an event will be taking place in the Olympic Park at the same time as the game against Ingolstadt, which will further increase traffic in the Parkharfe.

Neuer Zuschauerrekord

A hint of playoffs
On the sporting front: After almost four weeks of break due to the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, the Red Bulls are back. But of course, our guys haven't been idle. After a few days off at the beginning, the focus was on preparing for the hot phase of the season.
“We've been training hard and now we're looking forward to getting started again,” reports Max Daubner. “We're now approaching every game as if it were already a playoff game,” announces our all-rounder.
Our three Olympic participants, Mathias Niederberger, Fabio Wagner, and Tobias Rieder, are also back now. “We have one or two more training sessions with the whole team and then we'll be ready for Wednesday,” said Daubner on Monday.
Champions League, home advantage, opponents wanted
One thing is clear: in the remaining eight regular season games, we want to secure the best possible starting position for the “most exciting time” of the year. We are currently in fourth place, with Ingolstadt in third and Mannheim in second just one and four points ahead, respectively. Only league leaders Cologne have a clear lead.
“For us, the playoffs start on February 25, not in March. The last eight games are extremely important: they determine Champions League qualification, home advantage, and our potential opponents,” summarizes Oliver David. “Overall, I think the season has been very successful so far, but from now on we have to play with a playoff mentality,” demands our head coach.

Top scorer Barber remains a Panther
ERC Ingolstadt will also be doing the same. The Panthers also decided not to play a test match during the break, but instead extended the contracts of top forward Riley Barber by one season and forward Abbott Girduckis by two more seasons. In addition, Matthew Boucher joined the team as a new offensive player. The Canadian, who was born in Los Angeles, moved from HC La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland to Upper Bavaria and could make his debut against us.
Panther offense is unstoppable
Ingolstadt went into the break with two consecutive wins and five wins from their last six games. Offensively, the Panthers are the measure of all things – 176 goals scored is the best in the league. Barber alone was involved in 56 goals, with the American having 27 goals and 29 assists.
The forward has also scored four times against us. Then there's blue-liner Alex Breton, who is the PENNY DEL's highest-scoring defenseman with 45 points.
We proved that both of them can be stopped in our last home game against Ingolstadt. The Red Bulls won 2-0 at the beginning of December. Shortly before Christmas, we also picked up three points with a 3-1 away win on the Danube, while the Ingolstadt team won the first matchup 6-3.
A win on Wednesday would see the Red Bulls move ahead of Ingolstadt. Daubner is certain: “If we play our game, we'll win.” It would be the perfect start after the break.
