“I have pretty high expectations of myself.”Interview with recent addition Phillip Sinn// INTERVIEWIt has now been confirmed that new signing Phillip Sinn will be reunited with his former coach in Munich. In this interview, the defender talks about working with head coach Oliver David, his national team debut, and his ambitions for the coming season.Servus Phillip, first of all, congratulations on winning the championship with Salzburg. After two years, you're now heading back to Munich. How are you feeling right now?
Phillip Sinn: “Thanks for the congratulations. When I was around 14 or 15 and joined the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy, my big goal was to go to Munich one day. I don't think I would be where I am today as a player if I hadn't gone to the academy back then. I learned all the technical and tactical aspects of the game there. Munich was what I was working towards. So I'm all the happier now that I get to play for the Red Bulls and prove myself in the new arena.”
Two years ago, you played twice for our Red Bulls in the PENNY DEL. How do you look back on that time?
Sinn: “It was a very cool experience for me. I got a call in the morning at school saying that I could fill in for an injured player that evening. It was a derby against Straubing, which we won in a sold-out arena. It was an incredible experience that I won't forget anytime soon.”

You'll be seeing some old colleagues from Salzburg in the coming season. Are you looking forward to already knowing a few players in your new team?
Sinn: “I've played with Philipp Krening for the last ten years. It's incredibly cool that we're now going to Red Bull München together. Ryan Murphy is a great guy and a fantastic teammate. I recently got to know Luis Schinko and Fabio Wagner during the national team's World Cup preparations. They are absolutely top players. I can learn a lot from Fabio in particular, who is a defender like me. But of course, I'm looking forward to the whole team.”
Oliver David is the new coach in Munich. You've already played under him for the last two years. What is your relationship like with him and what do you appreciate about working with him?
Sinn: "Oliver and I have a very good relationship. He brought me into the professional team back then and gave me both trust and ice time, for which I am extremely grateful. He is a very honest and transparent guy, always friendly and positive. For this reason, I think there will be a good atmosphere that will benefit the entire team and organization. He is definitely an asset to Red Bull München.
He has already spoken about his playing philosophy in interviews, expressing a clear vision. Can you tell us more about that and how you think this philosophy can be implemented in the coming season?
Sinn: “His playing philosophy is more offensive. He plays in the classic Red Bulls style, which is very aggressive and fast forward. I personally like that a lot because I try to push forward as much as possible myself. The example of Salzburg shows that his style of play works well when the whole team is behind it. If we as a team internalize that in the next season, I am convinced that we will be successful.”
Let's turn briefly to the national team: you played for the DEB selection in both test matches against Austria and set up the 3-0 lead in the second game. How was that experience for you?
Sinn: “After last season, I hoped I would be selected, but I didn't necessarily expect it. So I was absolutely delighted when I got the call. Playing alongside players I've been watching on TV since I was a kid was a special experience. Then there were the two games against Austria, where I met many of my former teammates... I couldn't have imagined a better debut.”

When you talk about role models in the national team, who comes to mind first?
Sinn: “Patrick Hager, without a doubt. When I think back to the World Championships I watched as a child, it felt like he was always there (laughs). It's remarkable that he's still playing at the top level today. I can't wait to be his teammate in the future and learn from him.”
What are your expectations for the new season – both for yourself and for the team? How are you spending your time until then?
Sinn: “My expectations of myself are pretty high. I want to be a key player and help the team. It's important to me not to be seen as just a U23 player who's there because he has to be. I want to win the championship, and I think that's definitely possible with this squad and these conditions. Until then, I'll be spending the summer in Munich, exploring the city and training hard.”
