EHC Red Bull München: Recap of a successful six-point weekend

Back on track: Twelve goals, six points, and more reasons to celebrateRecap of a successful weekend// RECAPWe have had a more than successful weekend: thanks to our 6-3 derby win in Straubing on Friday and our 6-0 rout of Iserlohn on Sunday, we are now in third place. It's not just the six points that are cause for celebration.
Every streak comes to an end. After ten consecutive home wins in November and December, we had to accept a few defeats around the turn of the year. Plagued by numerous injuries, we lost close games against Frankfurt (1-3), Mannheim (2-4), and Berlin (2-3).
Hager puts morale first
Last weekend, coach Oliver David's team came back even stronger. The most apt headline for Friday's derby at the Straubing Tigers: morale. We were behind three times at the Pulverturm, but we always found a quick response. In the end, the Red Bulls really turned it on and even won the game 6:3.
“We stayed true to ourselves, didn't get nervous, and always defended consistently. In recent weeks, we've gained a lot of confidence that we can always turn games around,” said a proud Patrick Hager, summarizing the game afterwards.

Magical moments in the 6-3 derby victory
Winning the match against the team that was second in the table at the time was another feat of strength in this tightly scheduled phase before the Olympic break in February. And at the same time, it was proof of commitment, willpower, and ultimately quality. In a strong team performance, one player stood out: Veit Oswald scored four points in a match for the first time in his career.
The forward, who was called up to the Olympic camp on Monday, contributed three assists and one goal. Other highlights: Taro Hirose's goal to make it 1-1 and Gabriel Fontaine's 5-3 goal, which could be in the running for “goal of the month,” are ones you can watch over and over again with a smile on your face.

As befits their status, these were celebrated live by numerous away fans. More than 300 Red Bulls supporters traveled on a fan ship, where they celebrated exuberantly even before the game.
Landslide victory against Iserlohn – further proof of versatility
And the party continued on Sunday. The Red Bulls took no prisoners against the in-form Iserlohn Roosters, winning comfortably 6-0. McKenna opened the scoring after just over two minutes, and Konrad Abeltshauser made it 2-0 after less than seven minutes. For the defenseman who set up the 1-0 goal, it was his first goal at SAP Garden this season. For the first time, spectators also witnessed Koni's iconic celebration on the video screen. If you missed it, you can catch up on our Instagram page.
The fact that the 33-year-old is on the scoresheet fits in perfectly with our concept. The twelve goals on Friday and Sunday were scored by nine different players. This is an indicator of our remarkable variability in attack. Although our top scorer Jeremy McKenna has “only” scored 13 goals, with ten players scoring eight or more goals, we are, together with ERC Ingolstadt, the most unpredictable offense in the PENNY DEL.

McKenna and Bibeau celebrated by fans
However, the man of the moment on Sunday was our new internal leader. McKenna scored his first hat trick in a Red Bulls jersey against the Roosters. The “Summerside Sniper” was rightly honored with the Humba after the game. “We dominated the game today. It was a strong team performance. I'm very happy about the win and that I was able to contribute,” said the modest Canadian.
Once again, Antoine Bibeau provided strong support, filling in for the injured Olympic athlete Mathias Niederberger (upper body) and recording his third shutout. The Canadian has the lowest goals-against average of any DEL goalie (1.8) and ranks second in this category with a save percentage of 92.9 percent. After the game, the shutout goalie danced in front of the fans and then headed for the locker room with a grin before posing for selfies during the overtime talk at Henry's. There's no doubt about it: the 31-year-old has arrived in Munich.
