Course of the match
Neither team attacked with full risk at the start, but there were still chances on both sides. Both Mathias Niederberger and his counterpart in the Berlin goal Jake Hildebrand were able to distinguish themselves. Ex-ice bear Gabriel Fontaine was initially the most dangerous Munich player. However, Hager made it 1:0 for the Red Bulls in the power play, deflecting a shot from Ryan Murphy into the net (14th). The visitors defended this lead until the break.
In the middle period, Berlin initially tried in vain to equalize. Only a well-placed shot from former Munich player Andreas Eder brought the defending champions their first success (26'). But the joy only lasted 54 seconds before the Red Bulls struck back: Eisenschmid redirected Hager's shot into the net to make it 2:1 (27'). The duel then became more intense. Antoine Bibeau had to replace Niederberger in the Munich goal 2:27 minutes before the end of the period due to injury. The score remained the same and Munich were 2:1 ahead after 40 minutes.
In the final period, the Red Bulls disrupted the Eisbären offense very effectively and repeatedly had promising chances in front of their opponents' goal. In the end, the consistent Munich defense, a very attentive Bibeau and Eisenschmid with his second goal into the empty Berlin goal (59.) ensured that EHC Red Bull Munich kept the upper hand with 3:1.
