DEL preview, Matchday 9: EHC Red Bull München visits Nuremberg

Bavarian duel: Red Bulls face tough test in Nuremberg on ThursdayTwo players are out with injuries// DEL - PREVIEWThe PENNY DEL kicks off its ninth match day with a Bavarian duel: EHC Red Bull München faces the Nuremberg Ice Tigers on Thursday (7:30 p.m. | live on MagentaSport, on HENRY & on our blog).
After two consecutive defeats, our Red Bulls need to get back to winning ways and, above all, tighten up their defense. Coach Oliver David's team will have to do without Max Daubner (lower body), who will be out for several weeks. Ryan Murphy (upper body) will also miss the game in Nuremberg. Our new signing Antoine Bibeau arrived in Munich on Wednesday.

Ice Tigers in review
The Nuremberg Ice Tigers also came away empty-handed last weekend. They suffered a 1-5 defeat against Mannheim and also came away empty-handed against Straubing (1-4). The Franconians, who qualified for the playoff quarterfinals for the first time in six years last season, are aiming for the playoffs again this season. After eight games, the Ice Tigers are ninth – and thus on course.
Dangerous duo
Two Nuremberg players are among the league's exceptional talents this season: Evan Barratt and Cole Maier have eleven points after eight games and are showing that they haven't forgotten anything over the summer break. Only Mannheim's Marc Michaelis tops the Nuremberg duo (twelve points).
Evan Barratt
While Barratt is the playmaker and has provided the final pass for seven goals (DEL top value), Maier shines as a finisher with six goals scored. Maier is thus slipping into the role that Jeremy McKenna held before his departure to Munich. Samuel Dove-McFalls has also scored six times – which is quite surprising, as the rising star has almost reached his season best (eight goals) from last season.
Incidentally, five former Munich players are now playing for the Ice Tigers: defenders Jakob and Markus Weber, forward Thomas Heigl, and goalies Evan Fitzpatrick and Niklas Treutle.
